What
is the Blueprint?
The 6 major goals (and their main objectives)
for the Blueprint are:
1) To identify
community-based data that allows us to target resources to high-risk
neighborhoods
a) Designing a database and GIS mapping
tool to identify the location of housing units at high risk for
lead poisoning
b) Obtaining feedback and participation of community partners
in our targeted neighborhoods
2) To develop
a "Lead Smart Home" seal of approval and "Lead-Smart”
Campaign
a) Determining a working definition
for "Lead Smart” and "Lead Safe”
b) Developing "Lead Smart Home” campaign materials
3) To focus
resources to make more housing lead safe and maintaining lead-safe
housing
a) Building on existing programs
and systems for identifying and matching unsafe housing to necessary
resources
b) Identifying the barriers to making a home lead smart/safe and
finding ways to address or remove those barriers in the high risk
neighborhoods
c) Improving compliance with existing laws and regulations related
to lead poisoning
d) Working and collaborating with existing organizations that
support landlords, tenants, and others who have control over making
homes lead safe and maintaining house that contain lead
4) To identify
all "Lead Safe"and lead free housing and maximizing access
to families with children
a) Working and collaborating with
existing organizations who control the lead safe and lead free
housing
b) Working with existing organizations to advocate for financing
for affordable housing construction and rehabilitation
5) To focus
efforts on prevention of lead poisoning through screening, education,
and outreach
a) Increasing screening rates and
education through existing programs
b) Increasing education on lead poisoning, this Blueprint, and
general children's environmental health to those who will interact
with families with children
c) Increasing education on lead poisoning, this Blueprint, and
general children's environmental health to at-risk populations
and the general public
6) To improve
services for lead-poisoned children and their families
a) Focussing on the "points
of change” to protect children
b) Finding additional ways to keep lead-poisoned children and
their siblings from being poisoned
