What is the Blueprint?

The 6 major goals (and their main objectives) for the Blueprint are:

1) To identify community-based data that allows us to target resources to high-risk neighborhoods

a) Designing a database and GIS mapping tool to identify the location of housing units at high risk for lead poisoning
b) Obtaining feedback and participation of community partners in our targeted neighborhoods

2) To develop a "Lead Smart Home" seal of approval and "Lead-Smart” Campaign

a) Determining a working definition for "Lead Smart” and "Lead Safe”
b) Developing "Lead Smart Home” campaign materials

3) To focus resources to make more housing lead safe and maintaining lead-safe housing

a) Building on existing programs and systems for identifying and matching unsafe housing to necessary resources
b) Identifying the barriers to making a home lead smart/safe and finding ways to address or remove those barriers in the high risk neighborhoods
c) Improving compliance with existing laws and regulations related to lead poisoning
d) Working and collaborating with existing organizations that support landlords, tenants, and others who have control over making homes lead safe and maintaining house that contain lead

4) To identify all "Lead Safe"and lead free housing and maximizing access to families with children

a) Working and collaborating with existing organizations who control the lead safe and lead free housing
b) Working with existing organizations to advocate for financing for affordable housing construction and rehabilitation

5) To focus efforts on prevention of lead poisoning through screening, education, and outreach

a) Increasing screening rates and education through existing programs
b) Increasing education on lead poisoning, this Blueprint, and general children's environmental health to those who will interact with families with children
c) Increasing education on lead poisoning, this Blueprint, and general children's environmental health to at-risk populations and the general public

6) To improve services for lead-poisoned children and their families

a) Focussing on the "points of change” to protect children
b) Finding additional ways to keep lead-poisoned children and their siblings from being poisoned
