Internships and Volunteering

Possible Volunteer/Intern Opportunities with the Lead Action Collaborative Children's Health and Housing Fair: To be held during Lead Poisoning Prevention Week July 2003. Help is needed with all aspects of the planning and implimentation of the day. This includes:

1. Outreach to community groups and individuals to attend and participate
2. Coordination of games, music, presentations, health van, pony rides, etc.
3. Coordination of finding sponsorship for prizes, food, drinks, music, etc.
4. Facilitating the day of the event
5. Coordination of publicity and follow-up

Community Needs Assessment Research: Help will be needed to design and carry out community needs assessment research. Specifically, LAC will be conducting research to explore the following:

1. What the barriers are to receiving help for lead poisoned children
2. What the barriers are to receiving help for making homes lead safe
3. What types of resources are needed for existing programs
4. What role LAC can play in facilitating the goals of community groups

Community Outreach:

  • Working to increase LAC連 visibility in the community,
  • Getting more community organizations involved in LAC activities and other children連 health-related activities in the Boston area
  • Exploring new potential collaborators and Steering Committee members Advocacy Outreach
  • Working with communities to increase their ability to advocate for funding and change within the legal system.
  • Working to increase the issue of childhood lead poisoning in various governmental bodies including the Statehouse, Governor連 Office, and Attorney General連 Office.
  • Working on a State-wide media campaign to raise awareness about lead
  • Exploring the Precautionary Principle and how it applies to lead

Advocacy Outreach:

  • Working with communities to increase their ability to advocate for funding and change within the legal system.
